It’s true that the shows produced by the likes of HBO and Netflix regularly sweep the board at the Emmys, and are generally better than the content produced by traditional channels, but there’s only so much disposable income people are prepared to spend on subscriptions. In short, there’s a limit to how many subscriptions people will take out, and has been shown, preventing unlicensed downloading is very difficult. Expecting them to pay for access to myriad services simply turns them back to BitTorrent, which provides universal access. This is hardly surprising: offering people access to content at reasonable prices has proved the most effective strategy in the fight against unlicensed downloading.
